Project outline

The $36.8 million State Government–funded Pound Road Upgrade improved traffic flow, safety and connectivity between the South Gippsland Freeway and South Gippsland Highway in Dandenong South.

Working in close liaison with VicRoads and Winslow Constructors, DCE delivered the civil design for major bridge widening over the South Gippsland Freeway, additional lanes providing three westbound, two eastbound and two right-turn lanes onto the freeway, and upgraded traffic signals at key intersections including Pound Road and the South Gippsland Highway, Pound Road and Vanessa Drive, and the freeway on and off-ramps. The project also included improvements to the Abbotts Road and South Gippsland Highway intersection with additional turn lanes, and a new two-way shared path for cyclists and pedestrians between Vanessa Drive and the South Gippsland Highway.

DCE’s design also addressed flood storage areas in coordination with Melbourne Water’s 2100mm drainage infrastructure as part of the Hallam South Contour drainage strategy.
