Project outline

DCE was engaged as principal consultant to lead the relocation of the Pakenham Racecourse to a new 250-hectare greenfield site in Tynong – delivering Victoria’s first new thoroughbred racing facility in more than 40 years. The landmark project involved end-to-end delivery across masterplanning, design, and construction supervision.

The first stage delivered a state-of-the-art 2,400m turf track (featuring Australia’s longest home straight), two sand training tracks, 110 stables, a $10 million grandstand, parking infrastructure, an irrigation dam, and over 40ML of wetland water storage. The development also included a 150-acre residential trainer precinct, enabling a more sustainable, on-site live-and-train model for Victoria’s racing industry.

DCE also project managed the installation of a 2,000m all-weather Polytrack, enhancing year-round racing capacity.

The project was recognised with a 12d International Innovation Award, reflecting DCE’s
leadership in delivering complex, large-scale racing infrastructure on time and to a high standard.

In 2025, Southside Racing celebrates ten years at Tynong. Over 430 meetings and 3,400 races later, Sportsbet Pakenham has cemented itself as one of Victoria’s premier racing venues.
