Project outline

DCE has played a central role in the transformation of Moonee Valley Racecourse, providing civil engineering expertise from the inception of the redevelopment masterplan. Working closely with the Moonee Valley Racing Club (MVRC), DCE helped shape the long-term vision for ‘The Valley of Tomorrow’ – a world-class racing and entertainment precinct with a vibrant mixed-use urban community.

The redevelopment includes a realigned racetrack, new grandstand, upgraded racing facilities, and a broader urban renewal initiative incorporating residential and commercial development, open space, and civic gathering places.

In addition to the racecourse works, DCE led the integrated water management strategy for the precinct, with initiatives including stormwater harvesting, reuse, and irrigation optimisation. These outcomes were presented at the 2019 Stormwater Victoria Conference in “Stormwater Treatment, Harvest and Reuse – A Winning Trifecta at Moonee Valley.”

In a major sustainability milestone, MVRC became the first Australian sports precinct to receive EnviroDevelopment accreditation for the Racecourse Precinct in November 2023. DCE supported this application and has proudly embedded environmentally sustainable design principles across the site, including a precinct-wide water strategy enabling up to 90% recycling of the racetrack’s irrigation system.

With a strong focus on long-term viability, sustainability, and community benefit, the project cements Moonee Valley as a future-facing civic and racing landmark.
